Otto Freudenthal - CV

Born in 1934 in Gothenburg, Sweden. Father Heinz, viola player and orchestral conductor, mother Elsbet, pianist and cellist.
1940 regular piano tuition
1943 regular violin and viola tuition
1944 regular trumpet tuition, later also trombone and tuba.
1947 professional debut as pianist in Mozart piano concerto.
1951 piano studies in London, England with prof. Ilona Kabos, on the recommendation of Annie Fischer. Simultaneous studies at Trinity College of Music, London.
1956 London debut in Wigmore Hall. Excellent newspaper reports.
1957-60 Teacher at The Royal College of Music in Manchester.
1948-61 Regular concert work touring Europe and Scandinavia. Many broadcasts, recitals and orchestral concerts as pianist.
1961-73 Personal and music assistant to conductor Dr. Otto Klemperer. Worldwide travel, recording sessions, EMI, coaching, accompanying, conducting, score transcriptions, etc.,
1973-74 Working in Paris, France, on documentary films on Dr. Otto Klemperer ”Dr.Klemperer´s long journey” and ”Klemperer in rehearsal”.
1974 Return to Sweden. Establishing reputation as a composer.
1982-97 Teaching position at Linköping Kommunala Musikskola. Teaching position at Motala Folkliga Musikskola. Conductor of Linköpings Orkesterförening. (Symphony Orchestra). Conductor of S:t Lars Kammar Ensemble. Founder and conductor of Music for Peace manifestation. (3 years). Producer and conductor of opera in Linköping. Hansel and Gretel/Humperdink, Orfeus and Euridice/Gluck, Threepenny opera/Weill, La serva padrona/Pergolesi, The Telephone/Menotti, stage production of Mother Courage/Dessau.
1998 Concert tour of Germany. First performance of Trio for viola, cello and piano. Commissioned to compose stage music for ”Spelet om Stångebro, 1598” a open air spectacular playing in Linköping.
First performances of two works for Quinton, Viola d´amore and piano in the USA during the International Viola d´amore congress in Utah.
1999 5th tour of Japan. First performance of song cycle ”Abschied” sung by mezzosoprano Alexandra Gravas during music festival ”Musikdagar 99” in Sweden.
CD-recording of Schubert´s Winterreise with bariton Hideaki Nitta for distribution in Japan.
2000 First performance of ”Symphonic Movement” for wind instruments and piano commissioned by Östgötamusiken in Linköping.
14 poems by Pär Lagerkvist set to music and premiered in Linköping, with Marilyn Minns, mezzo, Nadia Kuprina, soprano and Helena Eriksson,recitation.
Arranges Östergötlands Musikdagar 2000 and the 28th International Viola Congress in Linköping.
2001 Tour of Japan introducing ”Divertimento Pastorale” a new composition for
Flute, Violin. Viola and piano. (Also available for Plucked String Orchestra).
First performance of ”Traumlandschaft” for 4 Violas during Musikdagar i Östergötland.
First concert recital in the Tabernacle in Machynlleth, Wales with mezzo
Marilyn Minns and soprano Carolina Johansson.
2002 Piano and mandolin recital with Detlef Tewes at the Tabernacle, Machynlleth, Wales.
Music director for Pergolesi´s opera buffo La serva padrona and an operetta cavalcade in Linköpings castle and other venues in Östergötland, Sweden.
